Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith

The Central Association (Central-Verein, CV) was founded in 1893 by members of the assimilated liberal Jewish middle class. It championed civil rights and social equality for Jews and, as of 1922, published the CV-Zeitung. In the years 1928–1933, it had an office in the Wilhelmstrasse in Berlin, which documented the activities of the National Socialists and engaged in antifascist educational work. After the Night of the Broken Glass in November 1938, the Central Association and the CV-Zeitung were banned.
